Kathy Nelson is the owner
and head coach of KAATS Gymnastics, Inc. She is married and has 2 children.
All members of her family are actively involved in the activities at
the gym. KAATS is the family-friendly gymnastics facility that the
residents of Southeast Minnesota were asking for.
KAATS Pine Island was opened in 2000 and has enjoyed great success.
KAATS Pine Island continues to offer recreational gymnastics classes for children 18 months and older; USA Competitive Teams, and MAGA (Midwest Amateur Gymnastics Association) Recreational Competitive Teams. KAATS also offers a tremedously popular class for the physically and emotionally disabled called, I'm Gonna Shine!
Kathy has competed in gymnastics throughout her entire life. At Winona
State University, she was a four-time All-American Division 2 competitor.
Upon graduation from college, Kathy embarked on a career as a physical
education instructor, as well as a professional, licensed gymnastics coach.
She has been coaching recreational and competitive gymnasts for 27 years
now. In 2003, Kathy was honored to be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame at her alma mater.
Kathy is currently serving as the National Chairperson representing
the State of Minnesota in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU).
In 2000, her coaching peers honored Kathy with the MAGA Coach of
the Year award for the third time.
KAATS Competitive Teams continue to enjoy success at all levels in USA and MAGA. Her continued involvement in these organizations and her gymnasts’ strong presence in the competitive arena evidence Kathy’s commitment to the sport of gymnastics.
